This Month In Coaching Education

By Shannon Murray, Washington Youth Soccer Director of Coaching Education

As the newly named WA Youth Soccer Director of Coaching Education, I wanted to extend a warm thank you to all of my colleagues who have devoted their time and efforts to benefit the great game of soccer over the years. I hope that, in this role, I am able to partner with all of you to continue those efforts as we witness a tremendous amount of growth in all levels of the sport here in the great State of Washington. There is no better way to keep this growth alive than through coaching education. This is an exciting time, as U.S. Soccer continues to update their course curriculum. Coaching Education is a never-ending pursuit, and we want to provide continued support throughout your coaching life cycle. If there are any services that we can provide to support your continued learning at all levels, please let us know.

If you are interested in scheduling, registration or questions about a course, please reach out to the Regional Development Officer in your District. Each of these RDOs can provide valuable assistance in planning or scheduling a coaching course, and can answer any questions about coaching education opportunities in your area. Do not hesitate to contact them with any questions you might have.

This month, we feature an article from Rob Walker on integrating your Goalkeepers into the Team Session, and two sessions from Northshore YSA and FC Alliance Technical Director, Dave Schumacher, addressing both Defending and Creating Awareness in your Players. Individual player decision-making on the field, and under pressure, is an important factor in player development. You will enjoy Dave's insight into this area of training.

In addition, please take the time to complete the Coaching Education Survey. We want to provide the best coaching education services to meet your interests. We will be answering some of your questions in the next Coaches Corner. If you have any education questions, please contact the coaching education department. We look forward to working with you!
