Washington Youth Soccer Sends Its Best
to Region IV ODP Championships

Washington Youth Soccer will send its top Boys 1997 and 1998 and Girls 1995-98 age groups to Las Vegas this weekend for the 2013 US Youth Soccer Region IV ODP Championships. Fans can follow along live throughout the three-day event, Jan. 11-13, by following Washington Youth Soccer on Twitter @WAYouthSoccer where schedules and scores will be posted.

Washington's teams are comprised of players selected from the state pools in Washington Youth Soccer's Elite Player Development (EPD) program, a joint effort of Washington Youth Soccer and Seattle Sounders FC to further develop the elite players in Washington State. Players in the EPD program are selected to compete in ODP championships, local and regional elite tournaments and college showcases, and the annual State Pool Training Program, where they are paired with other highly skilled players, and the top coaching staffs, in our state to maximize their development and training opportunities.

In the three years since the new partnership was formed between our state's largest youth soccer association and its top professional club, Washington's EPD teams have won six Region IV ODP crowns, including a record three wins in 2012. Each of Washington's three reigning champions — the 1998 girls, 1998 boys and 1997 boys — will defend their titles in Las Vegas, while the 1996 girls will seek to avenge a championship-game defeat suffered last year and add their own Region IV crown.

The Region IV ODP Championships brings together boys and girls ODP teams in five different age groups from the 14 US Youth Soccer state associations that comprise Region IV — Washington, Alaska, Arizona, California North, California South, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Wyoming.

Teams play a round-robin format in two groups, with the top-two teams in each group advancing to bracket play. Complete scores and tournament information can be found online.

Congratulations to each of the players selected to represent Washington Youth Soccer at this week's event, and good luck to all of our teams! For more information on how you or your player can become involved with the Washington Youth Soccer/Seattle Sounders FC EPD program, click here.
