Starfire XTREME Cup Helps Give “Hope” to Youth Worldwide

Starfire’s only all-rec tournament partners with Steve Zakuani’s Kingdom Hope organization

Starfire Sports’ XTREME Cup is the organization’s only all-recreational tournament — but that’s not what caught the attention of Seattle Sounders FC star Steve Zakuani.

No, what excited Zakuani about the chance to partner with this year’s XTREME Cup, Aug. 24-26 at Starfire Sports in Tukwila, is the impact the tournament has on players and families well beyond the borders of Washington Youth Soccer.

Last year’s XTREME Cup raised over $5,000 for its charitable partners through team and player fundraising, and Starfire’s own commitment to give $50 per registered team. This year, that fundraising effort will go to benefit Zakuani’s Kingdom Hope, an organization committed to “inspiring young people to pursue and achieve their goals through the sport of soccer.”

“Steve is very active in the community, and Starfire is his home base,” says Chanie Sandman, Director of Marketing at Starfire Sports. “Partnering with the XTREME Cup is a natural fit. We each have very similar missions, in terms of using soccer as a way to inspire youth in all aspects of their life.”

Every team that registers for the 2012 XTREME Cup will be eligible to participate in the fundraising effort, with the teams that raise the most money winning exciting prizes. The grand prize will feature a day with Zakuani himself, including field time at Starfire, and a private lunch.

Zakuani will also be on hand throughout the tournament to share his vision for Kingdom Hope, participate in a fun Q&A with players and coaches, and even hand out medals at the end of the weekend!

“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” Sandman says.

The XTREME Cup is open to boys and girls Rec and District teams, from ages U10 through U19. Entry is $360 per team, of which Starfire will contribute $50 towards Kingdom Hope. Each team receives a minimum of three games, with awards presented by Zakuani to the top two teams in each gender age group, plus every player on the top-three fundraising teams.
