Washington Youth Soccer Sends Its Best to Region IV ODP Championships
Washington’s teams are comprised of players selected from the state pools in Washington Youth Soccer’s Elite Player Development (EPD) program, a joint effort of Washington Youth Soccer and Seattle Sounders FC to further develop the elite players in Washington state. Players in the EPD program are selected to compete in ODP championships, local and regional elite tournaments and college showcases, and the annual State Pool Training Program, where they are paired with other highly skilled players, and the top coaching staffs, in our state to maximize their development and training opportunities. This year’s Washington Youth Soccer/Seattle Sounders FC EPD teams will have quite the legacy to live up to in Phoenix this weekend. In the two years since the new partnership was formed between our state’s largest youth soccer association and its top professional club, Washington’s EPD teams have won three Region IV ODP crowns, including a sweep both years by the state’s 1995 boys squad. The Region IV ODP Championships brings together boys and girls ODP teams in five different age groups from the 14 US Youth Soccer state associations that comprise Region IV — Washington, Alaska, Arizona, California North, California South, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Wyoming. Teams play a round-robin format in two groups, with the top-two teams in each group advancing to bracket play. Complete scores and tournament information can be found online. “The EPD players and staff have worked tirelessly in preparation for this event," says Technical Director Gary White. "We head into this competition confident that our players will perform to the best of their abilities. This is another great opportunity for Washington’s elite players to showcase their talent in front of college/national youth team coaches and their peers.” Congratulations to each of the players selected to represent Washington Youth Soccer at this week’s event, and good luck to all of our teams!
