New Elite Player Development Program Launches and Open Tryout Registration Begins
Dear Washington Youth Soccer Members,
Today we launched our new Elite Player Development program (EPD) – an umbrella program built to create the best avenues of development for our elite players. The EPD, open to boys and girls with birth years 1994-1998, will now be the overarching system used to develop elite players in Washington State and will combine all the programs currently a part of Washington Youth Soccer’s development system, including the Olympic Development Program (ODP), Regional Training Centers (RTCs), State Pool Training, etc.
What the New System Means for Players
With the new program, players will now tryout for the EPD, opposed to the individual programs of ODP, RTC, etc. Once identified as an EPD player, elite athletes will follow a hand-selected combination of the programs under the EPD umbrella based on their age group, developmental needs and capabilities. The new system exponentially increases the opportunities for our elite players and ensures their correct education and matriculation.
Who can be a 2010-2011 Elite Player?
Elite players are those athletes who have been identified by one of the following methods:
Tryouts for the Elite program are held each year and are open to all Washington Youth Soccer players. The EPD is a state-run program and athletes participate while still playing in their normal club programs.
