Region IV Workshop Updates Coaches on Exciting Changes to Coaching Education
by James Charette
U.S. Soccer conducted a Region IV Coaching Education workshop this past September for State Technical Directors and Directors of Coaching Education in Anchorage, Alaska. The workshop was led by Dave Chesler, U.S. Soccer Director of Coaching Development, and Vince Ganzberg, U.S. Soccer National Staff Instructor. Vince also oversees the development of the “F”, “E” and “D” Licenses.
U.S. Soccer covered license additions and updates, and reviewed new course content. The “F” License will come online in 2015. For the future, a Pro License is being developed, as well as a Technical Director Youth License.
U.S. Soccer will launch the “F” License in January 2015. The “F” License is targeted coaches of 5-8 year-old players. The online license course is just under two hours and will give candidates access to a new U.S. Soccer Coaching Education Platform. Registration information will be posted on the Washington Youth Soccer website.
U.S. Soccer has also adopted a new registration process for the “A”, “B” and “C” license courses.
“We have created an intentional progression of U.S. Soccer content through the sequencing of courses,” said Director of Coaching Development Dave Chesler. “Our teaching competencies and tools are reinforced through the sequential coaching methodology in our pathway. We encourage licensing candidates to enter the U.S. Soccer pathway early and remain in for consistency, efficiency and positive growth.”
It has also introduced a new grading policy for the National “A”, “B” and “C” license courses starting in January 2015. The new grading scale will evaluate candidates throughout every aspect of the course in order to accurately measure their comprehensive coaching ability (taken from U.S. Soccer website). You can read more about these updates, see the new grading form and find an updates course schedule on the U.S. Soccer website.
