Welcome to the October 2013 edition of Coaching Corner, the bi-monthly newsletter written exclusively for Washington Youth Soccer coaches, by Washington Youth Soccer coaches. As you continue to work towards your goals in the year ahead, remember that Washington Youth Soccer offers numerous resources to assist both new and veteran coaches. THIS MONTH'S LESSON

Group functional training is a tremendously effective tool to help teach your players position-specific roles and responsibilities.  In this month's Coaches Corner, Washington Youth Soccer Director of Coaching Education, Shannon Murray, shares a session addressing Functional Play of the Midfielders and Forwards in a 1-4-2-3-1 System of Play. COACHING OPPORTUNITY

Washington Youth Soccer is hiring part-time Assistant Coaches to work with Soccer for Success! Soccer for Success is the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s innovative youth development program that uses soccer as a tool to combat childhood obesity and promote healthy lifestyles for children in under-resourced urban communities. The Assistant Coach will lead the implementation and oversight of the Soccer for Success program in one of the 12 elementary school locations across South Seattle (Kent, Auburn, Highline, and Tukwila). Individual program schedules will vary, but format will follow: three, 90-minute sessions per week, spread over two, 12-week seasons (fall/spring), immediately following the end of the school day. Start times range from 3-3:45 p.m. Coaches will be expected to work for two hours on each of the three days. The Assistant Coach is contracted at $30/session.
