Bob Gansler Headlines EPD Memorial
Day Camp in May

The mission of Washington Youth Soccer’s Elite Player Development program is to construct a precise learning environment for the education and progress of the state’s most talented young soccer players, with the goal of developing more players who will have the technical and tactical skills combined with the creativity to compete at the highest levels.

On the last weekend of May, that mission was taken to a new level.

Former U.S. Men’s National Team coach Bob Gansler headlined an impressive group of technicians at Washington Youth Soccer’s EPD Memorial Day Camp, giving Washington’s top players the chance to learn from, and be evaluated by, some of America’s brightest soccer minds.

The three-day event was held May 24-26 at the University of Puget Sound, and included both on- and off-field sessions.

In addition to Gansler, intense training sessions were also conducted by University of Washington women’s head coach Lesle Gallimore (who also serves as Technical Director for the Sounders Women), Sounders Women head coach Hubert Busby, Sounders Women goalkeeper coach Kelly Bendixen, University of Portland men’s coach Brandon McNeil, University of Puget Sound women’s coach Randy Hanson and Eastern Washington University’s women’s coach Julio Morales. Also on hand were coaches from the EPD program and Dr. Mike Morris of Virginia Mason, who gave a lecture on concussion injury awareness and nutrition.

Players attending the camp stayed in dorms on the UPS campus, allowing for the players to experience collegiate dorm life.

“This was truly a showcase of the top talent in Washington State, and an outstanding opportunity for our players to be exposed to high-level coaches,” said Terry Fisher, Washington Youth Soccer CEO. “We look forward to providing similar opportunities for our EPD players in the future.”
