The holidays are a time for gathering with family and friends, celebrating the end of another year, and hoping to get that perfect present you’ve been dreaming of … in other words, a time for the Sports Authority Recreational Cup Finals!

Over 450 teams statewide entered this year’s Sports Authority Recreational Cup, Washington Youth Soccer’s only State Recreational Tournament, giving recreational-level players the chance to enjoy the passion and competition of a State Cup atmosphere. Games began in the fall and the list was slowly whittled down through prelims, elimination rounds, and quarterfinals, until just four teams remained in each division, boys and girls U11-U19.

Those final four squads met in a series of epic semi-final and final matches at Starfire Sports in Tukwila on Dec. 10-11, where 18 teams found their dream present — a 2011 Sports Authority Recreational Cup Championship!

Congratulations to all of the teams who advanced to Starfire, and to those players and coaches who took their teams all the way to the final round. And, as always, a special thank you goes out to the Club and Association staff, parents, referees and volunteers without whom such opportunities would not be available for our state’s young players. Thank you to all!
