Older Boys Champions Crowned in Challenge Cup, Washington State Championships!2011 State Cup season comes to an exciting finish for Under-15 to Under-18 boys' teams For some Under-15 to Under-18 boys' teams, February's semi-final and final rounds in the Challenge Cup and Washington Youth Soccer State Championships marked the end of their two-month journey through statewide play-in and preliminary games, to the finals weekend at Tukwila's Starfire Sports Complex. For the eight teams crowned champions, however, the journey is just beginning. Thirty-two teams came to Starfire the weekend of Feb. 12-13 with dreams of State Cup championships in their minds, but only eight left victorious, each earning the title of State Cup champion and the chance to compete later this year at a US Youth Soccer Regional competition. Winning teams in the Under-15 to Under-17 boys' divisions of the Challenge Cup will advance to June's US Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup in West Jordan, Utah, where they will meet the champions of the other states in Region IV for the right to represent the West at July's US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup Nationals. Likewise, Washington state champions in the boys' Under-15 to Under-18 age groups will compete at June's US Youth Soccer Far West Regionals in Boise, with berths at the prestigious US Youth Soccer National Championships on the line. The Challenge Cup and US Youth Soccer Washington State Championships are the two state-level tournaments for Washington Youth Soccer's competitive teams. Both tournaments offer the state's elite players and teams the chance to compete against other top teams, and advance to regional and national competition. Thank you to the many volunteers and administrators who helped make these events a success this year, and congratulations to all of the teams who advanced to Starfire this year!
