Washington Youth Soccer EPD Team Excels at 2011 Winter College Showcase
In addition to the success Washington Youth Soccer's Elite Player Development (EPD) teams had at the Region IV ODP Championships, which you can read more about here, the 1994 EPD boys traveled to Portland for the 2011 Winter College Showcase — and were every bit as successful.
Matched up against other top teams Under-15 to Under-17 teams from Oregon, Washington, California, Idaho, Alaska, Utah, Nevada and British Columbia, the 1994 EPD boys (which also included selected players from the 1995 and 1996 EPD State Pools) compiled a 3-0-1 record to place second out of 20 teams in their division — a strong endorsement of the outstanding coaching, coaching education and player development practices being put to work in Washington's EPD system.
Hosted by F.C. Portland, the Winter College Showcase is one of the premier college showcase tournaments in the Northwest, with hundreds of teams putting out their best effort to impress the 80-plus college coaches from around the country who attend each year to see the best young talent the Northwest has to offer.
In achieving their second-place finish, Washington Youth Soccer's 1994 EPD boys were especially strong on the defensive end, allowing just two goals in their four games at the competition.
"The Portland Showcase was a wonderful opportunity for the Boys 1994 EPD team. Led by Willy Leiste and Peter Lechak, the boys showed great professionalism on and off the field. They gained great exposure to college coaches and were competitive throughout the weekend. We are extremely proud of their achievements," said Technical Director Gary White.
Congratulations to the players, coaches and parents from these outstanding teams, as well all related Association and club staff and volunteers. For complete results from the 2011 Winter Showcase, visit fcportland.org.
