Take Advantage of Washington Youth Soccer Statewide Scholarships

One of the many ways in which Washington Youth Soccer continues to provide for the well-being and ongoing educational and physical development of our members is by providing financial scholarships to Washington Youth Soccer players who are planning to attend college.

In this way, Washington Youth Soccer is able to continue our mission to foster the physical, mental and emotional growth and development of the State of Washington's youth through the sport of soccer at all levels of age and competition even after said individuals have completed their youth soccer playing careers and are making the transition to adulthood.

A total of 14 Washington Youth Soccer scholarships, each in the amount of $1,000, will be awarded for the 2010-11 school year, to one male and one female student from each of the seven statewide districts that comprise Washington Youth Soccer. The Washington Youth Soccer Board voted this year to name one of the scholarships in memory of Cor van der Meer, who was a Life Member and inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999.

Students interested in applying for the scholarships must meet the following criteria:

• Must be a properly registered player of Washington Youth Soccer for the 2009-10 seasonal year;
• Must demonstrate academic merit;
• Must be at least a Senior status by the 2009–10 school year, and;
• Must be attending a post-high school educational institution for the 2010-11 school year.

In order to apply for the scholarship, the following materials must be submitted to the Washington Youth Soccer Office by Mar. 15, 2010.

• The signed application form; (pdf)
• A letter outlining your career goals, financial need, brief personal information, your involvement and history within Washington Youth Soccer and how you will use the 2010-11 academic school year to reach your goals;
• Two letters of recommendation;
• Academic transcripts for all completed High School level work (unofficial copies are acceptable).
