President’s Message

Washington Youth Soccer recently announced its "Soccer in the Schools" initiative, with joint participation by the Sounders FC. This program will kick off in the fall of 2009.

One of our many goals is not only to promote soccer in underserved areas of our state, but to deliver a physical education program that will promote soccer programs in our elementary schools. In this effort, we will provide physical education teachers and specialists with a program that is age-appropriate for students.

With the support of Seattle Sounders FC, we will combine resources and take our soccer message around the state. The importance of physical fitness and an active lifestyle through soccer will leave these students with a life-long sport in which to participate. Look for more information about this unique program on our website and in future editions of Play On.

Our second task at hand is the hiring of an Executive Director for Washington Youth Soccer. We have identified five top candidates and are in the process of conducting interviews that will culminate in the hiring by June 1. The importance of continuing our Constitutional Convention process into year two and three, as well as developing our partnerships with our sponsors, are keys to this position.

Washington Youth Soccer has taken some progressive steps in these last nine months and these changes are affecting all of our operations. Whether it be administrative, league structures, tournaments or the core of our business structure, we will conduct business utilizing new methodology.

The Executive Director will bring with him/her additional life experiences that will be beneficial to the organization in making these changes. Look for more information on the announcement of our Executive Director in future e-newsletters and on our website.

See you on the pitch!
